Recent news should have fashion fans excited — for spring and summer 2017, Stella McCartney has revealed that she will be adding a new menswear line to her ever growing empire. The exciting announcement shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, since the British designer started out working on Savile Row for Edward Sexton, a legendary menswear designer (as seen on Mick Jagger, at left) with deep roots in the history of bespoke men’s clothing and rock & roll tailoring. Adding a menswear line to her women’s ready-to-wear and accessories, children’s wear, and athletic gear for Adidas, means that guys will now get to take part in the stylish and ethical fashions she creates.
Speaking with The New York Times, the designer stated, “The desire to marry the Stella woman to a man has been inside me since the very beginning. My time on Savile Row inspired so much of what I do, and it feels like the right moment to talk to men and give them what they deserve. I want to deliver to men what I deliver to women.”
Hopefully Ms.McCartney will be looking to her dashing husband, Alasdhair Willis, for fashion inspiration. His classic British sense of style would be ideal to adapt to the Stella McCartney universe, providing well cut basics with her devotion to environmental sustainability would be a very appealing offering. The smart menswear collection won’t represent any particular season, acknowledging the fact that most men ignore seasonal runway trends and shop only when needed.
The debut of menswear will arrive at an interesting moment on the fashion calendar, as this will be the first time Stella McCartney breaks with the usual fashion cycle. Clothes for both men and women will be shown and sold immediately, creating an entirely new see-now/buy-now schedule. In what is sure to be great news, the excitement of the runway show in London on November 10 will resonate right away, with the clothes becoming almost instantly available in store.
