Houstonians joined us in March for a glittering party to celebrate The Gold Standard campaign and to welcome the arrival of spring to River Oaks District. With the help of ace party planner Todd Events, the future retail space was transformed into a desert paradise inspired by our Joshua Tree photo-shoot location. “It’s always great to stand near the door as guests enter the space and hear them gasp at how incredible it looks,” said event producer Taylor DeMartino. “It gives me chills every time!”
The best parties always incorporate elements of surprise, and the sparkling desert-themed decor more than supplied the evening’s thrills. Golden materials covered almost every square inch of the place, and desert flora magically altered from its natural state produced dramatic, otherworldly results. “We didn’t have fresh flowers for the party – instead, we lacquered succulents and cactus in brilliant gold. My floral team came to me with some options and I told them, I want the big, scary kind of cactus you really shouldn’t touch!” said DeMartino.
Houston's very own golden idol, Lynn Wyatt, was in attendance wearing designer Naeem Kahn, while fellow partiers Denis and Karen Boulle, Isabel David, and Diane Lokey Farb set the fashion bar ever higher as the night unfolded. A Fare Extraordinaire provided cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, and DJ Dave Wrangler’s playlist set the sparkling mood. Guests sang along with the David Bowie cover band Space Oddity, whose players could have kept the crowd dancing for a thousand years… golden years!
